Moving Day....
Way-finding through the internet is more work than I thought. Thanks for coming along with me.
WHAT IS LOST & WHAT IS HELD?
Hello, Lovelies, Catherine here.
Back in January, I set my yearly goals. 1. Share more. 2. Make Rent.
Quarter One | Jan - March | COCOON
Quarter Two | April - June | COMMUNE
Musing upon these goals has led me to make some vital shifts.
I am moving from 3-to-1 and combining my email newsletter, Patreon account, and IG posting onto my Substack called Topography of Dwelling.
This name comes from a body of work started around 2019, that includes fiber art, sculpture, drawings, performance and socially engaged art. Topography of Dwelling seeks to make visible the invisible labor of caregiving through intentional record-keeping and the collection of domestic detritus.
Here, I want to cultivate a community around cloth and care—a community with you.
I want to share the many layers of my artworks, similar to what you would hear at an artist talk. I want to give you context. I want to encourage you to give a damn. I want to share with you voices, other voices, which have helped me find my way. Voices like these…
“A nun lives in the fires of the spirit, a thinker lives in the bright wick of the mind, an artist lives jammed in the pool of materials.” - Annie Dillard, The Holy Firm
Who am I?
I make fiber art, sculpture, and conduct socially engaged projects with abandoned textiles centered on themes of labor, connection, and care. I envision a generous art practice that redeems the overlooked domestic landscape, cares for forgotten textiles, and honors the undervalued labors of motherhood. Through site-specific installations, performances, and interactive works, I create spaces where these themes manifest through fostered connection and engagement among audiences.
I am Mother and Maker. Believer and Doubter. Slow to Learn and Quick to Act.
I hail from the Midwest (NO COAST!). I drink coffee in the shower.
You can find my artwork on my website. And my other website.
My love/hate relationship with IG can be found here, @catherine_reinhart_studio.
Why a Substack?
In an attempt to:
1. Share more about my artworks with you, fine folks - “Connection is Key to Thriving”
2. Streamline my online presence - “Quality over Quantity”
3. Support my studio financially - “A Woman's Got to Eat”
What will it look/sound/feel like
